Necrons and More
This Friday I received the first two parts of my order spree. I got my Blu-Stuff, the Malifaux miniatures, Malifaux Card Deck and my first Necron Catacomb Command Barge / Annihilation Barge kit.
I’ve played around some with the Blue-Stuff and after a couple of tries I managed to make a mold of a Scarab but as my order of Green-Stuff hasn’t arrived I haven’t had the chance of trying it out yet. The first impressions I got from it was that it had a much softer texture then thought it would and when dry it’s actually quite brittle. It’s quite easy to work with and doesn’t seem to stick to the materials I’ve used this far.
I’ve spend quite some time today building the Catacomb Command Barge / Annihilation Barge kit and I decided to make this one a Annihilation Barge. I have to say that while I don’t buy that much new GW kits I can with out a doubt see a big difference in quality since the last plastic kit I bought. This kit was fairly complex to put together and contained more parts then I was expecting. You could also tell that it was from a relatively new mold as there were hardly any flash.
I also finished the bases for my OOP Destroyers so they are done.
Now I just want Maelstrom to get their crap together and actually get the stuff I ordered and ship it to me. I’ve used them quite a lot the last three or so years and I have to say that their service has gotten worse which is a shame as they used to be very quick.
Malifaux Reborn
So it seems like people in the club are starting playing some Malifaux again and I have maybe half a gang painted up that I bought just to paint so I ordered the last pieces I need to put together the Pandora starter box plus a Teddy that I already have. I also decided to rebase the ones I have for them to fit the theme a bit more and I really like the Orphanage base inserts that Wyrd sells so I tried to keep that theme. I have no idea if my gang is any good or not as I’ve only tried the game once and I’ve only browsed through the rulebook a couple of times. I’m not a huge fan of the rules but it’s kinda like Dystopian Wars for me, sub par rules but I still have fun playing it if that makes any sense. Plus they do have some very nice miniatures and thats how I ended up with the gang I have. Evil children with knifes and giant teddy bears, can’t really go wrong with that.
The Necrons are right now on a break while I wait for my new kits that I hope should start arriving next week. While I was at it I decided to try the mold clay thing Blu-Stuff that I’ve heard a lot of good things about and I hope it’s going to work well making my Scarabs and some other things I have planned. I was debating a bit with myself if I were to try it or to give the Instamold a go but the price was better for BS and I got a better impression of it watching their respective video tutorials.
I also (finally I might add) started reading the Warhammer Historical’s The Great War rules to see if I have any use for it. I bought it when they had a very good sale a while ago and this far it seems like a pretty solid set of rules.
The Lead Painters’ League Results
While I didn’t participate myself in the league I have followed it closely and this year had some truly great entries. The final results have been posted on their forum. If you haven’t done it already, I can highly recommend checking it out. Check out the linked thread to see who won this year: http://www.lead-adventure.de/index.php?topic=39169.msg486308#new.
I did finish another Necron (Over)Lord, this one is also a slightly converted Classic Lord model. Pretty happy with how both of them turned out.
After doing some more research online for the army and reading the Codex I realized that I need to get some more Scarab Swarms and considering that I’m mostly using the old metal miniatures the Scarabs are kinda hard to find, well cheap ones at least so I’ve started playing around with press molding some and it seems to be working OK but not as good as I was hoping for.
In other news I got talked in (not that it was very hard:) to join the committee for a local gaming convention. It should be fun and I do want to become more involved in things like that so I’m happy about it. We have also started planning our very small convention, it’s being held in the end of July.
Necrons it is..
After much consideration I decided, with some help from my wife that I will build up a smallich Necron army which should be fun. So with that I put in a small order from Mealstrom, 2 Annihilation Barge kits and one box of Necron Lychguard / Triarch Praetorians to make some Cryptechs from. I’ve been going over my old Necrons and right now I have ~35 Warriors, 14 Immortals, a bunch of Overlords/Lords and 10 old Destroyers. Out of that lot I’ve done touch ups and based 20 Warriors and I’m in the process of basing the Immortals as we speak, just waiting for the glue to dry. For the bases I ended up with a winter theme, it’s working OK but it could use some more contrasting colors. The Necrons themselves are silver (original I know) with quite a lot of rust added to them so they kinda blend in with the snow, I guess I could always add some blood or something to make it “pop” a bit more. I’ll try to get some decent photos up tomorrow.
Today I got a fun package in the mail from China, the bits to make 20 Space Wolves Terminators. I must have spaced out when I ordered them because I did not order enough arms for them so I’m trying to convert some up. They wont have the most optimal setup but they should work OK I think (and hope) so I’m looking forward to trying them out in a ‘Logan Wing’ setup, It will have to be on foot though as I only have one Drop Pod at the moment.
